Ferguson: I'll appeal Gormley red card if I can

Clyde boss Barry Ferguson knows how tough a job referees have to do, but said official Colin Steven got David Gormley's sending off at Arbroath wrong.

Gormley was given a straight red shortly before half-time for a tackle on Craig Wilson - whose own goal later gave the Bully Wee a 1-0 victory - to level the game up at 10 men apiece, following Ricky Little’s straight red for a foul on Gormley himself.

And Ferguson said he is intending to appeal Gormley’s red card if the club are able to do so.

He said: “I realise how difficult it is for referees, I’ve been in the game long enough, but it’s not a sending off. We know that and I think he knows that from speaking to him after the game. I know he’s got to make a split second decision.

“I don’t know if we can appeal it or not but we will if we can. It’s just going in for a tackle, that’s the problem now with football you can’t tackle. He’s not jumped in or lunged in.”

John Gemmell was taken off injured in the second half and Barry admitted his side are down to the bare bones, but the injury list gives his talented young players a chance to stake a claim.

He added that the state of the pitches isn’t helping his side play the free-flowing football they want to, but changing their style of play is clearly working after three successive victories.

He said: “Gemmell’s not had a lot of game time then he’s played three times in a week, he hadn’t played in five weeks before we signed him.

“We’re down to the bare bones now. We’ve got a few young boys that will need to show that they’re ready to come in.

“The game on Tuesday against Stirling was horrible, our game with Berwick wasn’t great, but that’s how it is at this stage of the season. I’m wanting to get the ball down and play but you can’t, look at the parks.

“You need to change the way you play. We’ve done that, it’s not pretty but at the end of the day it’s a win. It was a horrible game to watch. We’re just happy to get back down the road with three points, that’s the main thing.”
