Flannery hat-trick gives Gers win

A GREAT result, and a great performance from Rangers, pity it was only a friendly and not in a cup match where recent meetings between them have left Rangers with a distinct feeling of injustice.

However it will boost team confidence no end with a tough programme of league games coming up and may set them up for the push for promotion.

The best possible start for Rangers, a corner kick in only three minutes was headed in by Flannery, giving ex- Kilsyth keeper, Scott Morrison, no chance.

Rangers continued to impress but were dealt a blow early on when David Barclay limped off, to be replaced by James McAteer.

Pollok had hardly threatened and it was all Rangers with Joe Barclay giving the big Pollok central defender a real roasting, he had several good attempts on goal and also laid on a great opening for flannery whose shot hit the base of the post.

Almost on half-time and a great run down the left by David Waters and cross into the penalty area gave Joe Barclay the opening to make it 2-0 Kilsyth.

Only a minute into the second half and it was 3-0 Kilsyth, Flannery again, he ran in and hit a great drive which came off the underside of the bar on its way to the net.

It was exhibition stuff now from Rangers, producing some great play, before Flannery completed his hat- trick with a low shot past Morrison.

He went off to a round of applause from Kilsyth and Pollok fans alike, with Phil Dolan coming on. The game was really all over with half an hour left and although Pollok made some changes they never seriously threatened Duke, who had performed well on the few occasions when it was required.

If this form can be carried forward into the next few games they should be serious promotion contenders. The game this Saturday, at home to Thorniewood, will give them the opportunity to begin the push towards the Super League again.

With Rangers not having a league fixture last Saturday, St Anthony and Thorniewood both took the chance to draw ahead in the title race with wins in their games.

However, Rangers have games in hand over both and a win this week will put them in a good position just behind Ants who have a blank this week.
