A good win for Gers at Camelon

Camelon Juniors......... 1

Kilsyth Rangers.......... 3

Friendly

THIS was a good win for Rangers at Camelon last Wednesday evening.

It was only very late in the game though that the two goals which made it certain came. Up until then Camelon had most of the game and but for very poor finishing might have won the game.

The match started pretty evenly with both sides playing some attracticve football and it was 27 minutes into the game before the opening goal arrived. Camelon were awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the Rangers’ penalty box and the ball over the defensive wall came off the inside of the post on its way to the net.

The lead was short-lived though. A minute later Tullis picked a pass well inside the Camelon half and rounded the keeper to slot home the equaliser. All square at half-time was a fair reflection of the first-half action.

Several changes were made at the interval, but it was Camelon who made all the running in the early part of the second half and but for some fine saves by Duke who had taken over the position, they would have gone ahead.

For a friendly match it became a little heated at times and the referee showed a few yellow cards, but fortunately it never got out of hand.

Entering the final stages Rangers began to gain the upper hand and forced a series of corners, and from one of these Chris Reid scored with a fine header.

Then with virtually the last kick of the ball Tullis scored his own second and Rangers’ third with a cracking shot from around 25 yards.

The final result perhaps slightly flattered Rangers, but in Stuart Tullis they had easily the best player on the pitch.

A further friendly against Campsie Black Watch takes place at Duncansfield this Saturday.

KILSYTH: Pennycook (Duke), McPeake, Carr, Reid, Mansare, Dempsey, Kelly (Dolan), Wilson (O’Neill), McClung, Tullis and McLaren.
