Junior sides land cup crackers in draw for third round of Scottish

Junior sides Cumbernauld United and Kilsyth Rangers have been handed tough tests in the draw for the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Both face East Region Superleague sides with Kilsyth at home to Camelon and Cumbernauld away to Linlithgow Rose on Saturday, November 21.

United boss John Queen admitted that going to Linlithgow was as hard a test as his side could have been given, but said his players had nothing to lose.

He said: “I have to be honest and say it’s not the tie I would have picked.

“They have a fantastic set-up but we’ll go there and give it a go.”

Kilsyth manager Keith Hogg said he was glad to have home advantage against a Camelon side which features three former Kilsyth players in Frannie Kelly, Graham McLaren and Calum Scott.

He said: “It’s a kind of local derby and it should be a great game for both sets of fans.

“We played them pre-season and won 3-2 but you can’t read too much into that.

“They won at Bo’ness last week which was a fantastic result for them and it will be a difficult match.”

Both Kilsyth and Cumbernauld had their league games, at Blantyre and at home to Kilwinning respectively. called off on Saturday due to the rain.

The sides turn their attention to the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup this Saturday with facing away second round matches.

Cumbernauld travel to face Super League First Division rivals Ardrossan Winton Rovers and Kilsyth take on Central Division Two table toppers Lanark United.

The United supporters’ bus for this game will leave Guy’s Meadow at 11.40am and the Town Centre at 11.45am.
