Kildrum lad’s amazing day at Hampden

It was a great day out for nine-year-old Munro, who won his player escort place after entering a national competition organised by McDonald’s.

Munro walked out with Lithuanian player Zydrunas Karcemarskas before taking to the stands to watch the game with his family.

Scotland overcame Lithuania 1-0, thanks to a solitary goal from Steven Naismith, leaving the Tartan Army five points behind the Czech Republic with a game in hand in the race for qualification.

Over the last eight years, McDonald’s has been working with Scotland’s grassroots football community to support the development of the game, creating over 2000 new community coaches and 1800 new football teams, as well as working with a network of McDonald’s restaurant franchisees to provide kit and equipment to clubs through the club twinning programme.

Scotland legend and McDonald’s head of Scottish football, Kenny Dalglish, said: “To be a part of an International European 2012 qualifying match and to walk out onto the pitch at Hampden Park is an incredible experience and I’m sure Munro enjoyed every minute. It is an incredible feeling to stand in front of so many passionate Scottish football fans and the atmosphere and experience is something only a few people have been lucky enough to experience.”
