The visitors made a bright start, testing debutant Kilsyth keeper Marc Waters from long range inside three minutes.

But Kilsyth then went up the other end and the veteran hitman bagged the first goal of the new era, latching onto a Drumchapel defender’s slack touch to fire home home from close range.

Sawyers doubled the lead seven minutes later when he got on the end of a cutback from McNulty to tap in, again from close range.

Drumchapel had another chance but Waters made another good save and Sawyers completed his hat-trick on 28 minutes when a Drumchapel defender slipped inside the box, allowing Aubrey to play in the former Clyde striker to make it 3-0.

Drumchapel had a great chance straight away in the second half when Kilsyth defender Scott Simon fouled Chris Craig in the box.

The referee pointed to the spot and Craig stepped up to take the penalty but Waters got down well to parry it away.

The contest was over on 65 minutes when Drumchapel defender Granger slotted past his own keeper to make it 4-0 to Kilsyth, with Sawyers waiting to tap in his fourth if the defender hadn’t got that touch.

It was a very dominant Kilsyth performance against a Drumchapel side who finished the game with 10 men after Lafferty received a second yellow for a push on Mackie.

Kilsyth are at home again this Saturday, once more behind closed doors, when they welcome Dalry Thistle.
