League leaders put in a half dozen against United

Hurlford United 6 Cumbernauld United 2Stagecoach West of Scotland Super League, First Division

IT would appear from the scoreline that Cumbernauld United took a real hammering at Blair Park, Hurlford on Saturday.

This was definitely not the case as for three quarters of the match against the league leaders the visitors were the better team playing all the football and, on chances, should have been goals ahead.

After taking an early lead, however, United presented Hurlford with two goals due to inexplicable defensive lapses giving the home side an interval lead.

Cumbernauld equalised soon after the break but an extremely controversial decision by one of the assistant referees gave the Ayrshire team the initiative and unfortunately it was all downhill from then to the finish.

There were nine yellow cards and one red card in this encounter although it was by no means an ugly contest.
