MacDonald and McGovern confirmed as new Clyde management team

New interim Clyde co-boss Peter MacDonald is looking forward to taking charge at Broadwood

The two players will take over following the departure of Barry Ferguson after last week's defeat by Annan.

Earlier this week the club board decided that an interim appointment to see out the rest of the campaign was their preferred option.

McGovern and MacDonald took training on Thursday night and will be in charge for the visit of League Two leaders Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

MacDonald, the club's top scorer this season, only joined the Bully Wee in July while McGovern for the club in 2015.

MacDonald told the club website: "We're both confident in our abilities and we played a decent level.

"I think we're vocal as players and coaches and I'd like to think we're looked upon as older and more experienced guys that can give advice to others.

"We're going to have an open door. We will be 100 per cent honest with everyone - whether they will like it or not.

"If someone wants to know why they aren't playing, we'll tell them. If they want to know what they can do to improve, we'll tell them. We've let the squad come to us with any issues they want to raise."

McGovern added: "I think we've got the respect of the boys and we're coming from a player background.

"We need to have mutual respect with the players, get together and get going."

"It's a bit of a cliché, but we've got 12 cup finals now. First of all, we need to win a game to build a platform and move us forward. Where it can go from there, it's up to us and the squad and we need to back each other.

"Let's forget everything that's happened in the past and concentrate on Saturday to start with."

A club statement said: "Both senior players are vastly experienced in the game, with over 800 career appearances between them in both Scotland and England.

"MacDonald also has previous and current coaching experience at youth level and as part of his combined player-coach role at Clyde.

JP and Peter have already demonstrated a highly professional, pro-active and enthusiastic attitude towards the role. Additionally, they both feel comfortable working together as the management team and sharing responsibility on a joint basis.

"The club hopes that supporters will rally round JP, Peter and the rest of the squad as they aim to start moving The Bully Wee back up the league table."
