McStay sure Clyde squad has sufficient depth and quality

The former Scotland international missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Edinburgh City because he was attending hospital for the birth of his child.

Without him Clyde struggled but McStay believes they are far from a one-man team.

He said: “Goody’s a massive asset to our team, but we’re lucky we’ve got depth and quality in our side. It was just unfortunate things didn’t go our way today.

“We were a bit flat at the start. We had chances here and there but we certainly weren’t ourselves, but you’ve got to give Edinburgh credit for taking their chances when they came.

“They certainly are improved from last season and are going to challenge us and other teams throughout the season.”

“But you always take the positives and the negatives from a game and try and work on them, so we’ll push on to Annan next week.”

McStay looked to be Clyde’s biggest threat and was denied the opening goal when a last-ditch goal-line clearance by Craig Thomson prevented what would have been an outstanding solo effort.

He said: “The boy did very well getting back and defending that it just unfortunate.

“It was a pretty balanced game at times and we just needed that little break to get us going. The first goal was crucial and unfortunately it didn’t go our way.”
