The sanction could be applied after the club admitted that it accidentally missed a payment to HMRC.

A statement on the club website revealed: “The club has inadvertently breached rule E29 of the SPFL by missing a November HMRC payment of £3,320.20.

“In the event of a breach of rule E29, clubs are precluded from fielding players registered after the breach unless subsequently approved by the board of the SPFL.

“The club is in communication with the SPFL whose Board will consider this matter at its meeting in the coming week.

“The club is fully up to date with all HMRC liabilities.”

During the window Clyde signed striker John Gemmell from Albion Rovers, former Livingston midfielder Ross Millen and Annan Athletic forward Jamie Watson and brought in defender Scott McMann on loan from Hamilton Accies.

A spokesman for the SPFL said: “The SPFL Board is aware of this matter which will be discussed when it meets later this week.”
