And McGovern believes that the result can be used as a platform to move forward.

He said: “We felt as if the boys were really pulling together - and that’s all we ask.

“We’re a bit disappointed in terms of losing the two goals but I think from where we have been, to go 1-0 down to the league leaders and get this result says a lot about the boys and it says a lot about the dressing room.

“But it also suggests that we have been under performing and we know that, and it’s about how to get the best out of us and that’s something we’re trying to work on.”

McGovern and Peter MacDonald were only appointed co-managers on Thursday, leaving little time to prepare for the Forfar match.

McGovern said preparations had been hectic, but added: “It’s a fantastic opportunity, a fantastic club where everything is set up to go higher so for people to trust us to take charge of the team is brilliant.”

MacDonald said he hoped the fans would now get behind the new managerial team.

He said: “If the fans can get behind us for the full 90 minutes, it gives the squad the opportunity to do better.

“It doesn’t matter how many people are in the stand, it has an effect on some individuals. We would rather it had an effect on the opposition.”
