Rangers and United lose out

DISAPPOINTING NIGHT: Duncansfield Park was not a happy place for Kilsyth Rangers on Monday night.

THIS was a game that Kilsyth needed to win to be sure of staying in the Stagecoach West of Scotland First Division next season.

Murphy put Thorniewood ahead in the first half before Dolan equalised for Kilsyth to send the sides in all square at the interval.

In the second half Kilsyth had quite a few chances to go ahead and hit the post on two occasions. However, it was Thorniewood who edged ahead through Livingstone with 15 minutes of the game left before Murphy fired the ball home to put the game beyond reach.

Kilsyth play host to Renfrew tonight (Wednesday) and their last game is away to Whitletts Victoria this Saturday.

Rutherglen Glencairn 2 Cumbernauld United 0

CUMBERNAULD United lost their last league game of season 2012-13 at the Clyde Gateway Stadium on Monday.

However, United will again play in the West of Scotland Super League First Division next season.

The Cumbernauld men began this game shakily and went behind in the eighth minute when hesitancy in defence allowed Glen’s Brett Agnew to score.

United improved but yet another defensive lapse in the 25th minute enabled the home side to go further ahead through Mark McCarry.

For the rest of the match, however, the visitors were the dominant team playing good football but unable, despite numerous chances, to put the ball in the net and the three points were lost.

Mention must be made of young Craig Stewart who substituted for an injured Paul Hanlon in defence and was a United success on the night.
