Rangers seek quick fix

Keith Hogg’s side were well beaten in last Saturday’s Super League First Division clash at Duncansfield as Cumbernauld United earned local bragging rights with a comprehensive 4-1 victory.

And the Rangers boss admitted his side were well beaten after turning in arguably their poorest performance of the season so far.

He said: “It was very disappointing. It was a big derby and we just simply didn’t start the game well and let them get on top.

“Take nothing away from Cumbernauld, they played well. However the simple fact was that the guys didn’t stick to the plan they had and we paid the price for it.”

Even tactical adjustments at the break, when Rangers went in 1-0 down, had no chance to take effect as Cumbernauld doubled their advantage just 14 seconds after the restart.

However the Rangers boss says his side now have to put their disappointment behind them and try to recapture the form which has seen them make such an encouraging start to the season.

Hogg said: “Last season we started with four defeats, this season we’ve had five victories so far and people have been talking in terms of promotion for us.

“But we’re not getting carried away. At the beginning of the season we looked at improving on last season when we finished seventh, in mid-table.

“But it’s not easy. The league we are in is a really competitive one; you only have to look at the results which come in on a Saturday night with everyone capable of beating everyone else.

“I’m not going to sit here and say we’re going for promotion. We have to take it game by game and we’ll try to get three points every Saturday and see where that takes us at the end of the season.

“For now the most important thing is that we get the reaction we’re looking for after last week’s defeat.

“We’ve been working on things in training and hopefully we can get back on track at Blantyre on Saturday.”
