Troon 4 Kilsyth Rangers 3
West of Scotland Super League First Division
Rangers’ day out at the seaside did not end with a win, but full credit for a battling display against all the odds, they really did deserve some reward for their efforts.
It was always going to be an uphill struggle for Rangers with a squad depleted through late call offs and holidays. It meant assistant manager Jamie McKenzie was the only outfield substitute available on the day.
Troon started on the offensive but Rangers defended well and restricted their scoring attempts to a few shots which Duke dealt with easily enough. After 26 minutes Desmond put a free-kick from just outside the box into the path of Phil Dolan whose header beat Johnstone to give Rangers the lead.
Troon kept up the pressure and did have a few near things, Chatam and Gilliers both having several near misses and one shot off the post was only scrambled clear after several other players had chances to score.
