Stephen Mullen, Dylan McGuigan and Scott McHaffie netted in a victory which ended any hopes Rangers had of topping the group.

But a point from their final match against Kilsyth on Wednesday will be enough to put the Kirkintilloch side through.

Cumbernauld have no game on Wednesday while while Rossvale, the only other team who could theoretically catch Rob Roy, are away to Dunipace.

Elsewhere on Saturday Thorniewood United, who reached the knockout stages last year, crashed out in emphatic style as they were hammered 9-3 by Petershill.

Chris Lennon (2) and Declan Docherty were on target for the Viewpark side but it was to no avail as Petershill romped home with goals from Daly (2), Craig, Stevenson, Brown, Davidson, Stokes and McLean (2).

In the same section Bellshill Athletic also crashed out as they went down 2-1 to a Shettleston side who were down to nine men by half-time.

Thorniewood play their final group match at home to St Roch’s on Wednesday while Bellshill finish up at home to Petershill next Saturday.

Forth Wanderers bounced back from their midweek hammering at Larkhall to defeat Royal Albert 3-2.

Martin Hannaway’s 43rd minute equaliser cancelled out the visitors’ opener four minutes earlier and Alan Christie then put Forth in front on the hour from the penalty spot.

Royal Albert levelled in 73 minutes but Willie McLaren’s last-minute strike earned Wanderers the points.

And Lanark United also got themselves back into contention, following their opening day loss at Lesmahagow, with a 4-2 win over previously unbeaten group leaders Larkhall Thistle.

‘Gow. who didn’t play on Saturday, are now the only team in the group with a 100 per cent record and are at home to Larkhall on Wednesday while Lanark entertain Forth.
