The victory sent Keith Hogg’s men back to the top of the Super League First Division table, a point ahead of Shettleston with two games in hand.

The return of Chris Reid at the heart of defence made a big contribution to this victory, but really every player played his part in one of the best team performances of the whole season.

Rangers opened well and Gary Whyte had to make saves from Ian Diack and Paul McBride.

Shettleston’s hit the base of the Kilsyth post with a free-kick, but it was Rangers doing the bulk of the pressing with the running of Nicky Prentice and Gary Livingstone creating havoc in the home defence.

The deserved breakthrough came in 28 minutes when Prentice put over a good corner kick which Mark Tyrell met with his head to put Kilsyth in front.

Seven minutes later, following a free-kick, Paul McBride slotted home to double the advantage.

Almost on the half-time whistle Shettleston had another free-kick but the chance to pull one back wasn’t taken.

Kilsyth continued to dominate after the break and Whyte was doing well to keep the score down, while at the other end it was just on the hour mark before Andy Carlin had a real save to make.

Another goal from Paul McBride more or less finished the game as a contest and both sides made changes.

But it was still very much one way traffic but the fourth and final goal came by way of an own goal after some prolonged pressure on the home goal.

The final indignity for Shettleston came when their manager was sent to the pavilion for repeated abuse from the sidelines.

Another crucial game awaits them this coming Saturday with Petershill visiting Duncansfield - but on this form there is nothing to fear for Kilsyth as they close in on top-flight football.
