Shotts BA 0 Kilsyth Rangers 7: Kilsyth down Shotts with record win

It was an impressive win, although Shotts were shambolic in defence and were by far the poorest team played by Keith Hogg’s men this season.

Rangers went on the attack early and the home defence looked distinctly shaky right from the start.

Going forward they did appear to carry some threat though with Burns making a few good runs and put in one decent shot.

However Rangers did look more meanacing when thay went forward and after only 13 minutes they opened the scoring, Paul McBride heading on for Scott Davidson to provide the finish.

Eight minutes later McBride who got Rangers’ second when his first attempt was blocked but he got on to the rebound and netted from close in.

It was not long before it was three, Davidson putting over a fine cross for Nicky Prentice to shoot home.

It was becoming a rout and Michael McGee picked up the loose ball from a poorly cleared free-kick to fire in the fourth goal.

Shotts almostb pulled one back when David Waters was forced to knock the ball just over his own goal, but shortly before half-time a handball in the Shotts box allowed Gary Kelly to make it 5-0 from the penalty spot.

The second half saw little improvemrnt in the home side’s fortunes; they held out for quarter of an hour before Scott scored an own goal.

Despite making a few changes - Corey Pearson came on for Franny Kelly and Davidson and Prentice were replaced by Alan Flanniagan and Scott Munro - Kilsyth continued to dominate and near the end McBride got his second goal and his side’s seventh to complete biggest ever win at Shotts and certainly their best win away from home in more than a decade.

The win keeps Kilsyth top, ahead of Shettleston on goal difference, but with other teams also chasing hard the league campaign is shaping up to be keenly contested.
