Things are looking up

IT doesn’t matter if Clyde are playing first or ninth in the table, according to boss Jim Duffy, because everyone’s had a better season so far.

But things are looking up at Broadwood. Saturday saw the Bully Wee record their second win in four games under their new manager, turning over second placed Stranraer 4-2 in Cumbernauld.

Duffy said: “I thought it was a good performance from the team and a good win for us. It was a game with a lot of entertainment and that’s something we could do with a lot more of in Scottish football.

Optimistic

“Another six goals for the fans and when you have games like that, sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. I was pleased to get the three points, it makes everyone a little more optimistic.”

Saturday’s game also saw new boy Charlie Miller finally make his debut in midfield after receiving international clearance.

Duffy added: “I just put him in because I think he has got great natural ability, good awareness and a quick football brain.

“He was making passes throughout the game that I don’t think others would see. I was delighted with him and the amount of work he put in was terrific.”

Clyde were due to face Stranraer again last night, this time at Stair Park, a fixture that was originally due to take place on January 8.

Cancelled

Duffy continued: “We’ve played good teams recently and playing Stranraer again so soon isn’t exactly ideal, no one enjoys that, but that’s just the way it’s worked out with the amount of games that were cancelled.

“I’ve told the players if you stick together and play as a unit then you’ve got a chance of beating anybody. Everybody’s above us so every match is against someone who’s been more consistent than us this season.

“It’s down to us now to pick up as many points as we can between now and the end of the season and to make sure we compete in every game.

“We’ve a couple back to back now, after this we’ve got Queen’s Park and Annan like this as well, but we just have to get on with it and take it as it comes.”

Next up for Clyde is a trip to Hampden to face Queen’s Park on Saturday, the venue of their only league win before Duffy’s arrival.

He added: “Everyone involved in football wants to play at Hampden. You can’t help but be lifted by the history of the stadium.”
