Rabs had already beaten Troon twice this season and were going for the hat-trick, but they slumped to their heaviest defeat of
the season.

Troon’s Jordan Muir blazed an early opportunity wide before Rabs spurned a great chance to snatch the lead when Stephen Maguire ran through on goal to collect a well weighted pass from Willie Sawyers but chipped his shot over the bar.

Troon went in front in the 12th minute when Muir was perfectly placed to slot home after the Rabs defence failed to clear a Scott Chatham cross.

Rabs began to push forward but without looking like troubling the
home defence.

Ambitious free-kicks from Chris Duff and Paul Finnigan came to nothing and Danny Mackenzie’s weak header from Ally Martin’s cross failed to trouble ’keeper Ally Semple.

Before the break Rabs were given a let-off when Gavin Collins rose unchallenged to head a cross from the right over the bar from a few yards out.

After the break Finnigan did well to hack a Craig Harvey shot off the line and Muir rattled the Rabs upright with a snap shot.

However Troon doubled their advantage when Adam Forsyth went down in the box under a clumsy Finnigan challenge and Chris McKnight stepped up to convert the spot kick despite ’keeper Jordan Brown getting a hand to the ball.

Troon sealed the match in 68 minutes when Dale Moore finished a Harvey cross before Rabs were reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes remaining when Danny Boyle was red carded for a last man foul on Forsyth.

Muir added a fourth for Troon when he followed up to net after McKnight’s free-kick rebounded from the bar, with Brown making a brave effort to keep it out.
