United blitzed as Clydebank hit goal trail

The tough Super League First Division fixture was made even more of a test when, with regular goalkeeper Barry Fraser unavailable and back-up custodian Stevie McGuire breaking a thumb at work, goalkeeping coach Ian Wilson deputised between the sticks.

However he certainly did not let the team down and made some outstanding saves during the match.

Clydebank made an explosive start scoring in under two minutes when a Johnny Allan cross was met perfectly by Joel Kosubandi whose header gave Wilson no chance.

The home side added to their lead five minutes later when the dangerous Kasubandi took advantage of slackness in the United defence to run on and slam the ball home.

United almost reduced the leeway when a terrific Davie Dickson header produced a magnificent save from Josh Lumsden in the home goal.

This followed a spell of Cumbernauld pressure with efforts from Sullivan, Simon Eeles and Scott Cummings all coming close.

Clydebank rallied however and in the 23rd minute Kasubandi, after hesitancy in the visiting defence, headed home goal number three.

The United boys were not out of it and from a Dylan McGuigan free-kick, Simon Eeles blasted over. Then good work from Stevie Mullen gave Dickson the chance to send a great drive just past.

After the break Wilson made a great save from Allan before Kasubandi shot past.

United suffered another blow on the hour when Scott McHaffie was shown a red card when he reacted in a flare up and Clydebank added to their score when Micky Little netted after strong play from Kasubandi.

Wilson made a tremendous double save from the home attackers but was helpless to prevent a fifth goal, a header from substitute Ryan Holmes.

To complete a miserable afternoon for United, Eeles was shown a second yellow card.

This Saturday United entertain Rutherglen Glencairn at Guy’s Meadow, kick off 2pm.
