Stagecoach West of Scotland Super League, First Division

Almost a month after it was due Rangers and United at last got their final league fixture played.

It concludes a season that was, for Rangers at least, far from saisfactory, a decent run in the Scottish, but another very narrow escape from relegation.

United finished in a comfortable league position and still have a cup final to look forward to.

Only three minutes in United were ahead, O’Halloran striking home from about six yards, another instance of the slack defending that has plauged Rangers all season. They came back strongly from this reverse though, Dolan was having one of his good nights and came close with a shot from 20 yards just a few minutes later.

Then McLaren put a good ball to Desmond whose attempt was only just wide.

It was all Rangers now and Dolan was right in the thick of it beating three or four defenders on numerous occasions but the final touch was always lacking.

Finally after 36 minutes it was a ball over from Dolan which was headed in by McLaren at the far post that brought them level. Really, Rangers could have been three or four goals up at the interval if they had taken their chances.
