Cumbernauld United progressed to the quarter-finals of the Central League Cup by defeating local rivals dunipace on Wednesday.

The Cumbernauld men got off to the worst possible start whenthey lost the opening goal 30 seconds from the kick-off. Aaron Kane was the scorer for the visitors.

Undeterred United settled to dominate the game but despite almost continual pressure and chances for Chris Zok and Dom O’Halloran, the equaliser did not arrive until the 32m minute when a Paul Thomson cross was headed home by O’Halloran

Thirteen minutes later Scott Upton was the provider with a magnificent cross which again was despatched past ’Pace keeper Stephen Mather by the head of Dom O’Halloran – his fifth goal in five matches.
