United goalkeeper Mark Quinn gave a lesson to five of his teammates when he coolly slotted home a decisive penalty kick at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday to ensure the Cumbernauld team would be in the draw for the second round of the West of Scotland Cup.

When this first round tie went to a penalty decider after a pulsating match on a very heavy pitch, none of the spectators would have imagined that they would witness 18 attempts to score from the spot, but they did. The teams had nine kicks each and five times United had the chance to win the shoot out and failed until Quinn beat Vale of Clyde goalkeeper Ryan Mailey to give the home team the vital win.
