United looking to beat weather after call-offs

Cumbernauld United will be hoping to avoid a hat-trick of call-offs and get back into action against Kilwinning Rangers at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday.

John Queen’s side have been out of action since losing 5-0 in the Scottish Junior Cup at Linlithgow Rose last month and haven’t played a league match since their 4-1 derby win at Kilsyth on October 31.

Kilwinning haven’t lost in eight league and cup games since they were beaten 3-2 by Kilsyth in September, but the Cumbernauld boss was encouraged by his side’s display at Linlithgow, particularly in the first half hour until Linlithgow eventually broke through.

He said: “Although we lost 5-0 I thought we played really well against a good side.

“Despite the result there were positives we can take out of the game and hopefully put into practice in the league campaign.

We were on a really good run leading up to the Linlithgow game and you don’t want to lose that momentum by having a lot of games called off.

“We’re in the position where we’re happy to be consolidating in the league after all the changes during the summer; in fact we’re probably doing a bit better than I expected.

“Kilwinning are on a really good run and have done well in the cups against teams from higher leagues but we have been playing well too so we’re looking forward to it.”
