Waddell demands team mates step up in search of first win

Waddell (30) turned in a man of the match performance on Saturday, but couldn’t prevent Clyde losing 2-0 to Annan Athletic, leaving them still without a home win all season.

After the game Waddell called on his team mates to grow up and start picking up points.

He said: “It’s nice to be man of the match, but really it’s of no consolation after yet another defeat.

“In every game we’ve played you could pick out one or two players who’ve done okay but that isn’t good enough.

“Every Friday when I’m preparing for a game I always think we’re going to win the next day and when I see the team sheet for who we are up against there is never anything to be intimidated by.

“Yet, we still can’t get a victory and I can only put it down to a lack of professionalism or maybe some immaturity as no one can tell me there isn’t some talented players in the squad, but the quality just isn’t being channelled correctly.

“I’ve no idea what we need from a new manager, but he will have his own ideas and it is up to the boys to take them on board.”

Clyde host Elgin on Saturday starting a schedule of 17 games in 57 days, and Waddell thinks playing every Saturday and midweek could have a positive effect.

He said: “I think just having lots of games could be a benefit as surely at some point we have to win one of them.

“If we can get that first win then maybe we can pick up some momentum with the games coming so thick and fast and by the same token there just isn’t the time to dwell on any more defeats as you’re straight into the next game.”
