‘We blew it’

Cumbernauld United crashed out of the Scottish Junior Cup at the weekend – as their tie with Dalry went ahead at the fourth attempt.

The Guy’s Meadow side bore the brunt of a 5-2 defeat and had two players ordered off late on in the game.

United boss John Queen spoke to the News and Chronicle this week about Saturday’s game.

“Dalry totally deserved to win the match,” he said.

“The pitch was a disgrace and the game shouldn’t have gone ahead. But they were under pressure to get the tie played, as this was the fourth attempt.”

However, Queen put the defeat down to his side not being able to adapt to the conditions.

“We are known as a passing team at Cumbernauld,” he said.

“I told the players not to pass and to go long, as our usual game would not suit the conditions.

“But they didn’t listen and we kept getting caught out.
