A Kilsyth golf club made their way into the history books at the weekend when they opened a very special bridge.

The popular Kilsyth Lennox club opened the only dry stane dyked bridge on any British golf course.

The bridge, at the courses 18th hole, was built by the West of Scotland Stane Dykers, with material kindly donated by local businesses, and has been named “The Cavalry Bridge”.

The weekend’s official opening ceremony was carried out by secretary Alan Stevenson and honorary member Danny McNaughton, watched by committee members and some of the Dykers who built the bridge.

The second week of the Winter League was played in contrasting weather conditions over the two days’ play. A beautiful benign day on the Saturday was met by a blustery wet day on Sunday. However, the best score of the weekend came in the difficult Sunday conditions when Robert Blackwood Jnr, opened his league two debut with an incredible 45 Stableford points. League one top scorer was Toby McColl with a super 43. League three had Kenny Brown, David Coyle, and Richard Monsour sharing poll position on 39. Greg Black with a tidy 43 was best in league four .
