Wet finals day at Palacerigg

On a wet day Palacerigg Golf Club held its championship finals day.

Following a week when the quarter and semi-finals were played it came down to the two top players in each category. The gallery were treated to some excellent matches and enjoyed the skills shown by the finalists.

The results were: Gent’s Champion, Brian Keen; runner-up Stuart Drummond. Ladies’ Champion, Marie Provan; runner-up, Elaine Provan. Gent’s Handicap Champion, Dougie Dorans; runner-up, Brian Donohoe Snr. Ladies’ Handicap Champion, Muriel O’Hara; runner-up, Cathy Turpie. Junior Club Champion, Rhys Thomson; runner-up Scott Buchanan. Gent’s Veteran Champion, Arthur McMillan; runner-up, Bob Paton.

The ladies played a tie in their Elizabeth Welsh league at home against Lenzie and finished in the rapidly fading light when the players didn’t as much see where the ball landed but heard it. The three matches resulted in a tie, with one win apiece and one halved game.

Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club

A glorious day’s weather welcomed all the guests competing in this season’s annual corporate fixture which took place on Friday, August 15.

The club would like to thank all sponsors for their support towards a successful day on and off the course and to David Wren and his team from sales and marketing who coordinated the schedule for the day’s Texas Scramble competition, hospitality and presentation of prizes.

Local company BDL were the comfortable winners with 55 Stableford points.

Donald Speedie was this season’s Lennox Trophy winner with a two-round total of 139; second placed was Brian Cusick on 140.

Wednesday, August 13, saw the Strokeplay fixture being won by Frank McKay carding a personal best net 66, winning by three shots from Grant Haddow who had a tidy 69.
