Great day at British Championships

CUMBERNAULD wrestlers Taylor McCann and Ross Connelly were crowned British Champions in London recently.

Ross and Taylor won gold at 37kg and 38kg respectively with both wrestlers winning two matches to claim their titles.

Lewis Waddell took silver as he was unfortunately beaten in the 73kg final.

Despite the final result of fourth place, Lee McKeown fought well against his opponents, which included an American and an Albanian.

Ross Connelly, 37 kilos schoolboys (first place) – Ross won v Furan Macit (Marathon) 5-0, Pin won v Connor McGaughey (Bolton) 0-2, 4-2, 3-0.

Taylor McCann, 38 kilos schoolboys (first place) – Taylor won v Shaun Thorpe (M & W) 4-0, Pin won v Baturen Dine (Slough) 1-0, Pin

Lee McKeown, 60 kilos juniors (fourth place) – Lee lost v Austin Morrow (Street Fighters) 0-6, 0-6 Lost v Bajaram Mani (Legion) Pin Lost v Harris Hussein (Birmingham) 0-2, 0-3.

Lewis Waddell, 73 kilos cadets (second place) – Lewis lost v John Jayne (Kensington) 0-6, Pin.
