Honours even for Cumbernauld United

Cumbernauld United 2Glasgow Harp 2

Caledonian Premier League amateur side Glasgow Harp came close to defeating United at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday.

The Bishopbriggs team shocked the locals with two first half goals and when Cumbernauld were reduced to ten men it looked ominous for the Juniors.
Another great fightback in the second session, however, saw United score two goals and almost win the game.

Harp started well and hit the post before opening the scoring when Andy McLay beat Mark Quinn in the home goal.

United pressurised the visiting goal and Craig Borland came near before the Glasgow side broke away and a good move saw Chris Chalmers head the second goal of the match. After Chris Zok and Paul Thomson efforts, Zok was ordered off leaving United with ten men.

Manager John Queen rang the changes for the second half and the locals, despite being a man down, were the dominant team.

They got their reward in the 80th minute when Ryan Haxton sent a low shot past the Harp keeper. Minutes later United skipper Tony Fraser got the equaliser.
