St Patrick’s FP...3

KILSYTH Amateurs started the new season with a home defeat against St Patrick’s FP at the sportsfield on Saturday.

The first 15 minutes was a cagey affair with both teams trying to get to grips with the artificial surface.

St Pat’s took the lead on 20 minutes when their number nine evaded his marker on the right and rounded the keeper to slot home.

The equaliser came on 31 minutes when McNelis picked up the ball from Hagan, passed to Johnston, who played a one-two with Paterson who unleashed an unstoppable shot from 18-yards.

The Ammies could have taken the lead five minutes after the restart when Stirling released Johnston to cross, only for Ewan’s header to be comfortably saved.

With just over 20 minutes left, Saints took the lead - Stevenson raced from his line to make a clearance that fell straight at the opposing number 11’s feet, who hit it first time from 40 yards into the back off the net.

Ammies tried to freshen things up by replacing Ewan and C. Johnstone with Wilson and G. Johnston.

But they went another goal down on 78 minutes when their claims for a throw in were ignored by the referee, allowing St Pat’s number three to surge forward and deliver a perfect cross that was headed into the bottom corner.

Kilsyth replaced Beau with Hamill and tried to get the deficit down with good chances falling to Christie Johnston and Hamill. At full time Kilsyth were unlucky not to come away with a share of the spoils.

Kilsyth: Stevenson, Stirling, McCahill, Hagan, Johnston, Paterson, McNelis, Beau, Johnstone, Christie, Ewan, Hamill, Johnston, Wilson.
