kilsyth take derby honour

It was a very satisfying evening for the Kilsyth fans whose side not only maintained their position as joint leaders of the League Cup section with Rob Roy but also got their first win over United for a couple of seasons.

Although Kilsyth were the better side overall and could have won by a much wider margin, it was Cumbernauld who had the better of the early play.

Davie Dickson had a chance but his effort was well over and Robb came up to blast a shot well wide.

But it was Kilsyth who made the breakthrough in the 21st minute.

Paul McBride fired in a good shot which McGowan did well to block, only for the ball came back out to Gary Kelly who blasted it past keeper McGowan.

Paul McBride was looking very dangerous and had two more good attempts before finally connecting with a ball in from Nicky Prentice to put Rangers two up.

Prentice also came close with a good run in and a lob shot over McGowan only to see it land on the roof of the net.

Rangers were well worth their two goal interval lead.

They continued to dominate after the break and a fine piece of play found Scott Davidson unmarked in the box and he put a good header past McGowan.

Another couple of very good efforts from Paul McBride, he was almost unstoppable and was unlucky not to get at least a hat-trick on the night.

It was little surprise when Rangers went four up, McBride took the ball into the box and passed for Corey Pearson to score an easy goal.

United did get a consolation goal with almost the last kick from Ryan Tiffany.
