The Colts took the lead on 12 minutes when Rebecca Young drove at the Pars defence. Making her way past static defenders she got to the by-line and crossed for Sarah Wardlaw to tap in from six yards.

The Colts doubled their lead on 35 minutes with their best attacking move of the match. Quick passing between, Morrison, Porter and Wardlaw down the right culminated in the ball ending at the feet of McIntyre who slotted past Comrie in the Dunfermline goal.

After the break Dunfermline were by far the sharper side, they had made changes that proved effective and posed Cumbernauld lots of problems.

The changes worked for them and they drew a goal back on 65 minutes. Pullar as the Dunfermline target player barged her way through several challenges and ended up one on one with the onrushing McPhee from the Colts goal. She placed her strike coolly past the keeper.

The remaining 25 minutes of the match was a nervy affair for the hosts as they dropped further and further back in their own half, as Dunfermline pressed for an equaliser.

They had McPhee to thank for keeping their lead, touching a shot onto the post from a dangerous Pars attack.

Cumbernauld scored a third right at the death. A contentious offside was not given and Frances Fern challenged the keeper for a ball at her feet. As the ball broke the forwards way she scored into the empty goal.

After the match Manager McSherry praised her team’s solidness and fight in securing the win. This was a match that we would have either drawn or lost last season when it got nervy. However, the girls dug deep and showed great character to secure an important victory that sees us take over at the top of the league.

With the rest of the division on cup duty, the Colts’ fourth victory in five league matches took them above Queens Park and into the coveted top spot. The other teams around them have games in hand. However, it’s better to have the points on the board said McSherry.

Man of the Match for Colts was Emma McIntyre. Jody Morris was awarded Man of the Match for Dunfermline Colts. The next match is away to Inverness on April 28 at The Bught Park, Inverness, 2pm kick off.
