Latest from Cumbernauld Colts ladies

In a game that they dominated for large periods of the match the Colts Ladies huffed and puffed their way to a 3-2 victory over Glasgow Girls LFC on Sunday to continue their impressive start to this campaign.

The Colts had a strong starting eleven and an equally impressive benched that they called on to seal the victory.

After controlling the game through their now signatory passing game the Colts went behind to a wonderful strike from Glasgow’s Sarah Frances Paterson. Paterson’s 35 yard free kick flew over the helpless Roe in the Colts goal.

The Colts had Nicole Hutchison to thank for being on equal terms at half time. Firstly, equalising when a corner went in off her derriere, then clearing on the line a goal bound shot from a Glasgow corner with Roe beaten.

At half time manager Julie McSherry berated her players for their wasteful play in front of goal.

With their managers words still ringing in their ears the Colts made an immediate improvement and took the lead following a quick counter attack when Sarah Wardlaw beat Stevenson in the Glasgow goal with a low powerful left foot strike.

The Colts extended their lead from the penalty spot. Substitute Fern was upended in the box when her pace drew an ill timed challenge. Joanne Morrison converted from 12 yards with confidence.

Glasgow pulled one back to make the last 20 minutes a nervy affair. Sam McManus finishing from a long defensive clearance following a Colts attack.

However, the Colts held firm and secured their third win in their opening 4 league matches which should keep them 2nd in the league on goal difference behind Queens Park.

McSherry was pleased overall at the end of the match with the fight from her squad as they got the job done and came away with another three points.

Colts MoTM award went to Ruth Young.

The Colts next match is against Dunfermline at Broadwood on April 21 at 2pm.
