Lawlor and Munro in title bonanza

The Adult Social Badminton Tournament was recently held at Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell.

The event was organised by North Lanarkshire Badminton Development Group, Allan Murray of the Ravenscraig Club and David Johnston, NL Leisure’s badminton development officer being the committee members who oversaw the day’s badminton games.

One hundred players entered the competition, with 178 matches being played in group stages on 13 courts including five one-piece mats.

Then it was on to elimination to a final. The finals were umpired by Jaz Bedi, Scotland’s only European referee and had six line judges and a scorer. Prizes, donated by Yonex UK, were presented by Frank Burns of Clubsport NL.

Winners were: Gent’s doubles, Ross Barbour and Mark Johnston; ladies’ doubles, Niki Gracie and Tracey Barbour; mixed doubles, Pam Hodge and Michael Martin.

Fourteen members of the Norlan Adult Badminton Club in Cumbernauld took part in the Badminton Scotland Bonanza played at the Cockburn Centre in Glasgow.

It was played over the weekend of April 12 and 13.

All the players performed really well and special mention goes to Gavin Lawlor and Neil Munro who won the gent’s doubles event.
