Lenzie duo reach finals of tennis tournament

Two Lenzie men have taken to the court in a top tournament to become their club’s most successful men’s doubles partnership.

It may not be up there with Andy Murray taking home the Wimbledon crown, but David McBain and Stuart Wright were delighted after coming within a few games of their own epic victory.

They were one of 16 doubles teams from tennis clubs across the West of Scotland who competed recently in Bearsden Lawn Tennis Club’s 37th Annual Invitation Tournament.

Their march to the championship was halted in the final by Bearsden doubles team Gordon Wilson and Andrew Merry, who took the trophy.

The competitive game ended with the Lenzie lads losing 6-3.

David, a past champion at Lenzie, said: “We were delighted to get through to the final. This is the first time a gents’ team from Lenzie has got there, so it’s quite an achievement.”
