It was finals night at the Red Triangle last weekend with the club championship up for grabs. This is the showpiece of the season and the one everybody wants to get their hands on.
The defending champion was Eden Sharav en route to the final. Eden had victories over Andy Jackson, Pat Killen and Willie Scott to book his place in the final. His opponent was ex-pro Mark Boyle, en route to final. Mark had victories over Euan Patterson, Bill Munro, Drew Burbidge and Billy Reid,
In the final it was Boyle who got off to a flyer with a clinical 105 break to take the first frame. In the second frame Boyle got in first again with a nice 68 break, took a 2-0 lead. Boyle was relentless in his pursuit of the title and soon found himself 3-0 in front with a break of 56.
The match was a best of 9 frames, the pressure was on Eden but he soon produced and with breaks of 35, 47 made it 3-1. The fifth frame was a tight affair. Eden did enough and pinched it to make the score 3-2. In the 6th frame Mark produced some solid safety and match play to pinch it and go within one frame of the championship, but Eden had other ideas and held his nerve to nick the 7th frame and peg Boyle back to 4-3. With the trophy within his grasp Boyle was majestic and conjured up a terrific 75 break out of nothing to take the title. Congratulations to Mark (Mr Magic) Boyle on winning his fifth club championship title.
