Summer season is well under way at Palacerigg

The summer season at Palacerigg Golf Club is well under way and the club has been busy with team games, open competitions and the weekly medals and trophies to be contested.

The Men’s Open was held and the honours went to a visitor, Christopher Feeney from Torrance House Golf Club with an amazing net score of 60.

Two Palacerigg members took second and third places with Steven Peerless finishing with 68 and Sandy Cowe finishing with a round of 70.

The senior men’s open winner was a Palacerigg member – Bob Paton won with a 65, Len Grindorod took runner-up spot with 66 and Andy Urquhart was in third place with 67.

Congratulations to the members of the Jesseman League team who beat Balmore Golf Club over two legs finishing five up.

The ladies hosted the Swinton Trophy which is contested my married couples. The winners were Cliff and Sandra O’Neil, runners-up were Jasmine and Dougie Dorans.

The ladies played for their monthly medal and division one winner was Moira Mitchell, division two winner was Cathie Turpie and division three winner was Evaline Dunsmore.

Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club

Captain’s Day was held on Saturday, June 28 at Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club and the event was played in glorious weather.

A fabulous net score of 63 from the pairing of Hugh Nelson and Eric O’Neil assured them of being the comfortable winners of this season’s captain’s prize.

The fund-raising charity day was a huge success and club captain Frank Brien would like to thank all the team who rallied round to assist in making it a memorable day on the course and also at the evening presentation and disco.

On Wednesday, June 25 round two of the Wednesday Shield produced a personal best for Scott Taggart who claimed a unique double when he scored his best ever gross and handicap result with a magical gross 68. This was also good enough to claim the handicap category on 63.

His excellent round also brings him into contention for the midweek trophy.
