Tryst 77 Boys 2000/2001 Handball team finished off an excellent unbeaten year winning the Scottish Cup final at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, against their closest rivals Livingston Handball Club.
The cup final was a nervous and tense game where strong defence & excellent goalkeeping from both teams kept the scoreline unusually low.
The game started off with a great jump shot goal from Tryst’s Reece Connelly and a well placed penalty from Craig Yule put the Cumbernauld side 2 goals ahead and looking good.
Livingston then scored 2 goals without reply and a third on the stroke of halftime sent them in at the interval one ahead.
This goal really took the wind out of the Tryst Boys, as they haven’t been behind in a game all season.
To their credit they came out in the second half with great determination & instantly drew level from a well placed Connor Gray Standing shot.
Livingston then pulled ahead again from some excellent team attacking play creating an opening for their left back which he duly converted.
Five minutes passed with both goal keepers saving everything thrown at them before Tryst’s Mathew Russell scored an excellent 9metre shot which tied the game at 4 each.
With six minutes left on the clock, good attacking play from Tryst set Ruaraidh McEwan up to score a great goal from the line position, to put Tryst 1 goal ahead.
A very nervous 6 minutes followed but strong team defence and fantastic goalkeeping from Euan Forbes stopped Livingston scoring again, resulting in Tryst winning 5 goals to 4.
A tough game, but an excellent result for this young Tryst team winning their first major trophy.
