NL Leisure aces tennis

Murray mania has led to an upsurge in those wanting to take to the tennis courts in North Lanarkshire.

Tennis hasn’t always been as popular as other sports in this part of the world, but following the incredible success of Scotland’s new Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and, investment by North Lanarkshire Leisure - the base line is now the place to be!

Former Scottish tennis star and current chief executive of North Lanarkshire Leisure Blane Dodds, said: “It is important we invest in tennis especially given its current poularity and encourage the growth of the game here in North Lanarkshire. We would all love to see our next Wimbledon hero coming from this part of the Scotland.

The introdution of a new indoor tennis court at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre has been a great success leading to the formation of the Ravenscraig Tennis Academy and short tennis classes are also available.

The News and Chronicle previously reported that North Lanarkshire Leisure is also working on plans for the possible introduction of a new three court outdoor tennis court at Broadwood Stadium.
