Pupils meet Games star

One of the athletes who will fly the flag for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games recently visited Cumbernauld.

Hockey star Holly Cram, acting as an official ambassador for the Games, spent time at Cumbernauld High School to help inspire pupils from Cumbernauld High, Abronhill High and feeder primaries who will all attend the new Cumbernauld Academy as of the next school year.

Holly, along with Education Scotland representative Klaus Mayer, gave inspirational talks about the importance of the Commonwealth Games and the commitment required to make it as an athlete.

Holly (pictured right) also put pupils through their paces on the hockey field, where they got to test their skills against her, with a few aspiring sports stars also given the chance to learn about making a career in sport.

Acting depute head teacher Laura Forrester said: “The pupils really enjoyed it, the event went really well.”

The visitors also presented the school with a commemorative plaque which will now be put on permanent display.
