Lenzie endured the long journey to Newton Stewart on a wintry Saturday with a depleted team through injury and work commitments - and the game appeared to last longer than the bus journey as they faced a very strong home side.

However full marks go to the Lenzie players making their debut, especially young Carswell who impressed the coaches with his play. Player of the match for Lenzie was Colin Stewart.

It was also a disappointing day for Allan Glen’s who were beaten 7-0 at Kilmarnock.

During the first half Glen’s looked like the side more likely to score but handling errors cost them and the home side managed to touch down a minute from half-time through a well worked try by Andy Ferguson, converted by Scott Brown.

After the break Kilmarnock had by far the lion’s share of possession and only excellent defence by Glen’s prevented them scoring.

This Saturday it will be Lenzie’s turn to travel to Kilmarnock while Glen’s are also away, at Oban Lorne.

Both matches will kick-off at 3pm.
