Running for glory
Mearns Castle and Williamwood High schools clinched outstanding medal hauls.
In eight races, Williamwood won four team golds and two individual golds while Mearns Castle won two team and four individual golds.

Hide AdIn the senior race, fifth-year Williamwood pupil Max Lancaster finished first with classmate Neil McColl second. He took to the four kilometre race with ease despite specialising in 800 metres. In that distance, the youngster won the indoor national U18 race.
The Giffnock North runner said: “I am relieved. I was worried about the conditions. It caps of a really good winter.”
In the girls senior event Mearns Castle’s Holly Still, won both team and individual gold, with St Ninian’s pupil Nicole Scott finishing second.
Of theS3 boys,Kilbarchan’s Aiden Comerford, who finished 20th in the national cross country competition, won and Oliver Watson-Sweeny came second to help Williamwood to team gold.

Hide AdMearns Castle runner Nikki Miller won the female equivalent, narrowly beating out Williamwood’s Danielle Kelly.
St Ninian’s twins Michael and Joseph Lowrey fought to the finish in the S2 boys cross-country race, with Michael coming out on top.
Erin Wallace won girls S2 gold, leading Eastwood to the team win.
In the S1 race, Mearns Castle’s Jack Beck won with Williamwood’s Calum Young second, but there was more than a silver-lining for Calum, who won a team gold medal.

Hide AdA first-place finish by Lisa Miller from Mearns Castle helped her team to a gold medal in the S1 girls race.
In the P6/7event. Hamish Armitt from Eaglesham won gold in the boys race, with Owen O’Donnell from OLM and Scott Jenkins from Carolside close behind.
In the girls race, Netherlee’s Orla Lang of Netherlee finished in front of Mearns Primary’s Claire Wallace and Helen Chung, won silver and bronze respectively.
