The title-winning team consisted of Matthew Charles and James McGarrachan who received the gold medal after winning the canoeing event and claiming silver medals in both cycling and running events.

John Scott, head of Supercounty, the Civic Pride Campaign said: “I am delighted to present you with the Supercounty Triathlon Winners Cup – all the hard training sessions have certainly paid off.

“To excel in any sport is a fantastic achievement but a triathlon requires skill in all three disciplines. I hope that you display your medals with pride and I do hope that you continue competing through school events.”

Laurie Byrne, headteacher, said: “Events like this pan-Lanarkshire Triathlon give our pupils a great opportunity to meet with other like-minded athletes.

“I was thrilled to learn of Matthew and James’ success which is a great reflection on the PE staff here at St. Maurice’s HS.”
