Under 18s should not be disappointed

WHILST Cumbernauld under 18s will be disappointed to lose 27–14 in a tough bruising cup encounter to Clydebank at the weekend, they should not be too downheartened as they have made excellent progress in this the first year the club have fielded an under 18s for several seasons.

If they didn’t know it before todays game, rugby is a high impact collision sport, with the risk of injury, and it takes a certain kind of person to give their all on a rugby pitch for 80 minutes. And whilst it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the under 18 squad again demonstrated that they have an appetite for the game that will see them carrying on with the sport in coming seasons.

The game itself was nip and tuck with Cumbernauld having a narrow lead going into the last ten minutes. But with injuries taking their toll, Clydebank managed a couple of quick tries which they managed to hold onto until the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Cumbernauld’s under 13s took on Dalziel in a challenge match, which again saw some great rugby being played by both teams. Cumbernauld won this contest 21–10, but it’s a big round of applause for both sets of players for their great display of tough tackling and running rugby.

It’s looking like rugby across North Lanarkshire is developing well.
