United share points with 'Pace

THIS was certainly not a game for the purist as both sides fought out a goalless draw.

Although the sun shone, a constant wind and sporadic showers never really allowed either side to produce any real football. Dunipace took advantage of the wind in the first half, but they couldn't get the breakthrough they wanted.

United, after ten minutes could have scored, but a Jarvis effort from McAndie's cross was cleared by keeper Meighan. 'Pace hit back three minutes later but United keeper Buchanan saved a cleared ball out of harms way.

Both sides were finding it difficult to control the ball due to the windy conditions with many passes being overhit. 'Pace maybe coped a bit better than United and did have opportunities to score, but just couldn't break through the United rearguard.

United's best chance of the half came after 36 minutes when working the ball up the left wing, McConville swung over a great cross and Brown headed just wide of Meighan's left hand post. Four minutes later Brown was downed 20 yards out and Steele fired the ball over the bar.

So, level pegging at the interval.

The second half saw a more determined United and Gibson just failed to convert with a through pass that Meighan just cut out.

Marsh then had a free-kick diverted for a corner. Mills was a constant thorn on the 'Pace defence but really needed more substantial support.

He caused a flurry on the 'Pace rearguard when his cross was hit just wide by Jarvis.

United were in control but, like 'Pace in the first half, were finding the wind advantage hard to harness. Burns came on for the hard-worked McAndie in an effort to freshen things up. Both he and Brown had efforts cleared as United pressed. United's best chance came when a Jarvis cross was headed in by Steele but the ball hit the underside of the bar and went clear.

United kept pressing with 'Pace unable to really dent the United defence. But alas time ran out and both sides settled for a point apiece.
