United so close at Shettleston

CUMBERNAULD United just narrowly lost out on lifting the title at last weekend's Shettleston Tournament.

Saturday saw them chalk up a convincing 3-0 victory over Vale of Clyde.

In the final on Sunday, United and Kilwinning were tied at 2-2 with only three minutes to go. The Guy's Meadow side were awarded a penalty, but unfortunately Gary Gibson's spot kick crashed off the post. The game went to a penalty shoot-out and Kilwinning emerged triumphant 4-2 winners.

The Guy's Meadow side have made a change of venue in their forthcoming Surridge Sectional League Cup campaign.

Their game against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Wednesday, August 18, will now be played at Adamslie Park instead of Guy's Meadow.

A spokesman for the club said: "Our pitch has been re-seeded and does not open until Saturday, August 21, when we face Glenafton in the first league game."

The Rob Roy game kicks off at Adamslie at 6.45 pm.

Both other League Cup fixtures remain the same – this Saturday (August 7), against Kilsyth at Duncansfield, and Saturday, August 14, away to Dunipace.
