Former University of Strathclyde student Michael Goodfellow was joined by fellow Team GB medal winning curler Claire Hamilton to have their achievements recognised by their alma mater.

Michael and Claire were part of the men’s and women’s squads which won, respectively, silver and bronze medals for Team GB at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.

Before their Olympic triumphs, they both studied at Strathclyde, where Michael graduated in history and Claire gained a degree in pharmacy.

They returned to the University to receive the Alumnus of the Year trophy during a graduation ceremony at Strathclyde’s Barony Hall.

The Alumnus of the Year award is presented as celebration of the contributions which the University’s alumni make in their chosen fields, in the UK and overseas.

It has been made as Glasgow prepares to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where past and present Strathclyde students will account for nearly five of Team Scotland’s 310-strong squad.

It also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Strathclyde receiving the Royal Charter which gave it University status.
