Veteran Bobby takes silver

Tryst Lions wrestlers Bobby McLucas and Stuart McKay were to the fore when they represented Great Britain at the 2013 World Veteran Wrestling Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

Bobby, competing at 76kg Category E, won a prestigious silver medal.

He defeated opposition from Turkey and America by pins on his way to the final against the defending champion from Russia. Incredibly, Bobby McLucas recovered from prostate cancer to medal when it looked as if he would be retiring from the sport altogether. This was Bobby’s third World Veterans medal, adding to the silver and bronze he won in 2010 and 2011.

Stuart was fifth at 76kg Category C and was unlucky to be defeated in the semi-final by the eventual Greek champion. Unfortunately, he then lost the bronze medal match to a strong Russian wrestler. Despite disappointment of narrowly losing out on a medal at his first appearance at the World Veterans, Stuart is positive that he can be successful next year.

Upon returning home, Bobby was then presented with the club’s wrestler of the year award for 2013 to add to his ever growing collection of medals.
