Willie lifts league title

TENSION was high on Sunday night in the Red Triangle as the club saw the conclusion of the Six Week League.

There was one qualifying match between Scott Davidson and Mark Caulfield. Davidson won this 2-0 and progressed into the quarter-final. The second/third one-frame shoot out between Martyn Shields and Colin Allen was won by the man with the tan, Martyn Shields, and the quarter-final line up was complete.

In the quarter-finals Willie Scott beat Garry Coats 2-0, Colin Allen who has been playing great never performed on the night and was sent packing 2-0 by “The Postie” John Malcolm. Questions were asked of Scott Davidson against Andy Jackson but “Yip” was the answer as he won 2-0. Stevie MacMillan has really knuckled down this season and another gritty performance saw him win 2-0 over Martyn Shields.

The semi-final line up now looked like Willie Scott v John Malcolm and Scott Davidson v Stevie MacMillan. The first semi-final between Scott and Malcolm was a titanic battle and at 1-0 down Scott looked down and out. Malcolm missed a crucial ball and Scott pounced to level. Scott then won the third and progressed to the final. The other semi was a bit more one-sided. Stevie MacMillan played really well and beat Scott Davidson 2-0.

In the final Stevie MacMillan got off to a flyer and at 30 up with only two reds left looked like taking the first frame. Willie Scott had other ideas though and as soon as he got a chance, took it with a 38 clearance. In the second frame, the longest of the tournament, all eyes were on the clock as the club shuts at 11 p.m. Some fantastic safety was played by both players and as the frame progressed to the colours stages MacMillan stood 12 points up. Scott slotted home a nice yellow and proceeded to clear the table again, which left him the 2-0 victor. Scott (pictured above) was clearly over the moon as the last time he won an event was over ten years ago.
